Students Using VA Education Benefits
As required by the VA, School Certifying Officials monitor student enrollment and report class withdrawals throughout the semester.
The VA does not pay education benefits for classes that students do not complete. Therefore, withdrawing from one or more classes may result in a debt to the VA. The VA may automatically reduce the debt amount for a student’s first withdrawal while using VA education benefits. Subsequent withdrawals may result in the full debt amount.
Students who never attend a class or stop attending without formally withdrawing may also incur a debt to the VA. At the end of the term, professors report students’ last dates of attendance and non-attendance. Once received, this information is reported to the VA.
Students using Chapter 33 Post-9/11 GI Bill® or Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) benefits must contact their School Certifying Official for information about withdrawal-related debt and to obtain the required Withdrawal Permission Form. Students using these benefits cannot withdraw from classes independently.
The VA works through the university to collect the tuition portion of a withdrawal-related debt because the tuition was paid directly to the university on the student’s behalf. Once the VA notifies the university of the tuition debt amount, the Bursar’s Office will email the student with the amount due.

Military Short-Term Absence Policy
Kennesaw State University recognizes and appreciates the important contributions made in service of our country by Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard members. At times these students may be called to fulfill their duties for training or short-term deployment, which causes students to be absent from classes for a short period of time.
With proper documentation, these absences qualify as “excused absences.” Students should communicate with instructors and provide the appropriate documentation. Please refer to the catalog for more information.

Military Withdrawals
Kennesaw State University may grant a military withdrawal when a service member has a documented military service obligation that directly interferes with the current enrollment and extends beyond the scope of the University's short-term absence policy. Official military orders are required and will be reviewed to determine eligibility.
Military withdrawals are full withdrawals from all enrolled courses and cannot be granted for only a portion of a student's enrollment. For more information on Military Withdrawal, please visit the online University Catalog, Section 2.9.3 Military Withdrawals.
To request a military withdrawal, please email a copy of your official military orders and any pertinent information to Annie Bresler at ebresler@kennesaw.edu.
