VA Education Benefits

The Department of Veterans Affairs administers a variety of education benefit programs. Many veterans, active-duty personnel, and dependents may qualify for VA educational benefits. Currently, KSU certifies enrollment for students using the following benefits:

If you haven't already applied with the Department of Veterans Affairs to use VA education benefits, please plan on applying at least two months before the start of your first term at Kennesaw State University.

The VA may take up to 30 days to process new applications. Once processed, the VA will mail you the Certificate of Eligibility for the approved benefit. For any application or eligibility questions, please call the VA Education line at 1-888-442-4551.

Students applying for Ch. 31 VR&E will work with their assigned VR&E Counselor for approval and authorization rather than receiving a Certificate of Eligibility.

Benefit Review Information

  • Students using Chapter 33 Post 9/11 receive a book stipend and, when eligible, monthly housing allowance payments in addition to the VA paying tuition and mandatory student fees at the awarded benefit percentage. The VA pays tuition and mandatory student fees directly to the school. Housing allowances and book stipends are paid directly to the student by the VA.

    • Students must submit a Benefits Request each semester they want to use VA education benefits.
    • The VA will pay the school directly the tuition and mandatory student fees for eligible certified enrollment at the awarded benefit level.
    • The VA does not pay the school for bookstore charges, meal plans, housing on campus, parking permits, or for some portions of Executive/Premium graduate programs.
    • Students are responsible for payment of any remaining account balance by the payment deadline each semester.
    • Classes that are not required for your degree program, as well as repeated classes for which you have already earned a degree-satisfying grade, cannot be certified to the VA.
    • Tuition-specific payments from scholarships (e.g., HOPE, Zell Miller) or other sources (e.g., Military Tuition Assistance) are applied to your account first. Any remaining tuition and mandatory student fees are then billed to the VA.

    • Students must verify their enrollment directly with the VA each month.
    • Withdrawals and non-attendance may create debts with the VA and KSU.
