Military Tuition Assistance

The Tuition Assistance (TA) program pays the cost of tuition and some additional fees. Nearly all active duty military service members are eligible for TA. However, each service branch determines eligibility criteria that often reduce access. Tuition Assistance covers up to 100% Tuition and Fees, not to exceed $250.00 per semester credit hour or $4500.00 per fiscal year.

All service members should speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their military service prior to enrolling at Kennesaw State University or any institution. Since military funding is limited, it is important for all service members to use all their resources in making any educational decision.

To get started, contact the Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor at your installation’s education center, or visit your branch's online portal. Each military branch has its own tuition assistance application process and requirements.

  • 1. Service members must request Tuition Assistance (TA) through their branch portal and receive approval at least 7 days before the term start date. Students using TA should consult their Education Services Officer (ESO) and service branch TA portal for Department of Defense (DoD) and branch-specific deadlines.

    • KSU term dates are available for selection in branch TA portals only during the branch-designated TA request window (for example, beginning up to 60 days before the term start date and ending no later than 7 days before the term start date). Timeframes vary by branch.
    • Course codes, course titles, and term dates entered on the TA request must match your KSU registration exactly. Incorrect course information or term dates will invalidate the TA approval.

    2. After your TA request has been approved by your service branch, email the approval document to thirdpartybilling@kennesaw.edu so the TA can be applied to your student account. For additional information, please visit the Third Party Billing webpage.

If you encounter any issues finding your KSU classes or major in your branch portal, please email Annie Bresler at ebresler@kennesaw.edu

  • Kennesaw State University’s TA return policy aligns with the Department of Education rules for unearned aid and the Department of Defense (DOD’s) policy for the return of unearned TA funds.

    • A refund of 100% will be given until the end of the drop/add period for each semester.
    • If a service member withdraws from all courses on or before the 60% completion date, Kennesaw State University will issue a prorated refund to the appropriate military branch of
service for the unearned TA funds received.

Please visit the Withdrawal Dates & Refunds schedule on the Academic Calendar for the semester in question, located on the Office of the Registrar’s website. Students must withdraw from all classes to be eligible for a refund.

In instances when a service member stops attending due to a documented military service obligation, Kennesaw State University will work with the affected service member to identify solutions that may not result in a student debt to Kennesaw State University for the portion of TA funds returned to the appropriate military branch of service.

  • To request a military withdrawal, please email a copy of your official military orders to Annie Bresler at ebresler@kennesaw.edu.

Military withdrawals are full withdrawals from all enrolled courses and cannot be granted for only a portion of a student's enrollment.

Kennesaw State University may grant a military withdrawal when a service member has a documented military service obligation that directly interferes with the current enrollment and extends beyond the scope of the University's short-term absence policy. Official military orders are required and will be reviewed to determine eligibility.

For more information on Military Withdrawal, please visit the
online University Catalog, Section 2.9.3 Military Withdrawals.
