Students who have previously taken the class and earned an A. They know the content
and are excited to help guide students through it.
They are also prepared to share what they have learned about how to study effectively
for their course. They will be in class with the students every day, taking notes
and listening closely to the professor.
They are study session facilitators, not mini professors, who provide structure to the study session and help students stay focused on learning.
Empathetic listeners, resource guides, and most of all, supportive peers.

What Happens in SI Study Sessions?
|
SI Leaders guide students through practice and activities that review and reinforce
the material taught in class.
Students compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying
the subject, and test themselves before the professor does!
Students learn study skills and strategies to help them be successful in the course.
SI Leaders do not re-lecture, give out their class notes, or do homework for students.

Who Can Attend SI Study Sessions?

All students who want to increase their understanding of course material and improve
their grades!
SI is not a remedial or at-risk program; it is for any student regardless of skill
level. Sessions provide an opportunity for all students to learn and grow.

SI sessions begin during the second week of every semester.

What if You Don’t Have an SI Leader Assigned to Your Class?
|
You can attend any SI session, regardless of your class section!
Check out the SI Study Session Schedule to see if there is an SI Leader assigned to
a different section of your course.

Which Courses Are Served by SI?
|
The SI Program targets historically difficult courses. Historically difficult courses
are defined as those that typically have a 25% or higher DFW rate. (DFW = rate at
which students receive a grade of D or F or withdraw from the class).

How do I attend an online SI Session?
|
Online SI Sessions are held via Microsoft Teams. Simply click the link to join the
Teams meeting from the SI Session calendar. You can join from any device that supports
Microsoft Teams.
It may be helpful to install Microsoft Teams beforehand to ensure the process runs
smoothly.
How to access Microsoft Teams

None of the times on the schedule work for me. Can I access a recording of the SI
Session?
|
No, SI Leaders are not allowed to record their sessions. This rule is in place to
ensure that students can feel comfortable participating in SI Sessions.

Should I go to SI Sessions if I'm already happy with my grade?
Yes! All students are encouraged to attend to get extra practice and learn new study
skills. It's a great way to get to know your peers in a relaxed environment. |

How can I become an SI Leader?
|
To qualify to be an SI Leader, you must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at
KSU, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have earned an A in the class you want to support.
SI Leader applications for the upcoming semester usually open in February/March for
the next Fall Semester and September/October for the next Spring Semester.
