Patrick Arnold’s journey from student leader to entrepreneur demonstrates how mentorship and experiential learning can inspire meaningful change beyond campus.

While preparing to graduate, Arnold participated in the Department of Student Leadership’s Leap into Leadership (LIL) Endorsement Series. Through leadership development opportunities and one-on-one coaching sessions, he strengthened his skills, gained valuable feedback, and learned how to apply leadership principles beyond the classroom.
"Participating in the Leap into Leadership Endorsement Series and one-on-one coaching helped me grow from someone who had leadership ambitions into someone who better understood what effective leadership actually requires,” Arnold said. “I learned that leadership is not just about having the title or being the person with the idea; it is about understanding people, communicating a vision, building the right team and creating an environment where others can contribute their strengths.”
Arnold had already begun turning his passion for financial literacy into action when
he partnered with the Credit Union of Georgia to develop Fundoria, a financial literacy app and game designed to help children build essential money management and career skills through an engaging, interactive experience. He then used his experience with the LIL Endorsement Series and one-on-one leadership coaching to build on that work and hone the leadership skills needed to move the initiative forward.

Fundoria combines teacher-guided lessons, student-led exploration, and data-driven progress tracking in a gamified environment. The platform is designed to provide students with engaging, standards-aligned content while helping them build real-world confidence and develop foundational financial skills.
"Student Leadership helped me understand that an idea becomes meaningful when you can bring people together around it and turn it into action,” Arnold said. “Fundoria started as an idea for making financial literacy more engaging for children, but leadership experiences taught me how to communicate that vision, organize people around a common goal, build partnerships, and keep moving forward even when everything was not figured out yet.”
Arnold’s work demonstrates how leadership development can extend beyond campus and create meaningful change in the broader community. Through his partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, he will facilitate a series of workshops using Fundoria to help children develop foundational financial literacy skills. The workshops will provide young learners with opportunities to explore topics such as money management and career readiness through hands-on, accessible activities.
“Working with Patrick has been an absolute pleasure,” said Melanie Bandoo, Program Coordinator for Student Leadership Development. “Through leadership coaching, we explored his values, discovered his CliftonStrengths, reflected on the experiences that shaped his leadership story, and used those insights to set meaningful goals for his future.”
Arnold’s journey reflects the transformative experiences students gain outside of the classroom with Student Affairs and the Department of Student Leadership. Through mentorship, experiential learning, and campus partnerships, students can develop the confidence and skills needed to turn their passions into meaningful initiatives.
For Arnold, the lessons he gained through the LIL Endorsement Series did not end at graduation. By applying his leaderships skills to build on the work he had already begun with Fundoria and continuing to serve young people through the Boys & Girls Club, he is demonstrating how student leadership experiences can inspire lasting impact both on campus and throughout the community.
“Seeing Patrick put those skills into action by facilitating financial literacy workshops at his local Boys & Girls Club and using Fundoria as an interactive learning tool is a true reflection of the impact our student leaders can make,” said Bandoo. “Patrick is not only growing as a leader, but using his leadership to empower others and create positive change in his community.”
