C.J. Howard, a public relations student, shares insights from the Undergraduate Admissions Experience.

C.J. Howard is a senior public relations major at Kennesaw State and serves as the student social media specialist for Enrollment Services in KSU's Undergraduate Admissions office.

“I just took a chance,” Howard said, reflecting on his decision to apply for the position. After submitting his application through Handshake, he learned he had been selected for the role. The opportunity has allowed him to build on several years of social media experience.

Work Responsibilities

In his role, Howard creates and shares content for several social media accounts managed by the department, including @ksu_admissions on Instagram and @scrappyandfriends on TikTok. Other accounts associated with the department include @ksuinfo and @ksuorientation. 

Howard also supports daily office operations, which include processing and shipping merchandise requests and assisting with major campus events. Among the events he supports are Orientation, Open House, and other departmental initiatives. 

Personal Outlook 

Working as the a social media specialist has prepared Howard for his future career in several ways, particularly by helping him develop professionally and build confidence in workplace settings. 

“I’ve always been an outgoing person,” he said, “but being in this office with my colleagues has taught me how to stand up and just advocate for other things. I think it’s a great skill to have.” 

Advice to Fellow Owls 

Howard encourages fellow students seeking employment opportunities to apply for campus jobs and explore the resources available to them. 

“There are so many opportunities that people don’t think they can be a part of,” he said, “You just apply, and so many doors open. You never know where it can take you.”
