Kennesaw State hosts annual Owl Con on Marietta Campus

Kennesaw State University hosted the annual Owl Con on March 27, 2026, on the Marietta campus as part of Geek Week.

Owl Con shares characteristics of other conventions, such as Momo Con or Comic Con. Attendees can dress up in costumes or cosplays, bringing pop culture or their own characters to life. The event also provided interactive workshops, meals, and entertainment.

One of the staff members was Erin White, the Student Media Coordinator for Student Activities, who ran the check-in table at the event and expressed her love for Owl Con.

“It’s kind of a chance to show off special interests and bond with other people, whose show you’ve watched over 500 times,” said White.

Once the event began, attendees stepped into the Dealer's Hall. This was a space where various vendors displayed and sold their work and connected with attendees. The vendors offered an array of items for sale, from stickers and button pins to prints, crochet items, and even comics.

One of the featured artists was Tania Zachary, an Illustration major. At her booth, she had button pins and stickers and offered a live drawing session. Her passion for art began in childhood. Zachary’s desire to pursue an art career grew by watching the artist of the "Regular Show" discuss his storyboard process. Her aspirations include storyboard work, concept art, and character design.

"As a kid, I was introduced to 'SpongeBob'. I was fascinated by the fact that you could draw something and make it come alive," Zachary explains.

The ceremony also included a Live Action Role-Play (LARP) session with Iron Springs Amtgard, which practices regularly on the Campus Green. The head of the organization, Drew Boles, carried the persona "Dreyfus Haborym" and provided his insights into the practice itself.

“It’s a mixture of roleplay, combat, and medieval fantasy,” said Boles, “There are a lot of players that choose to take on a persona.”

There were many other sessions hosted in the Marietta campus classrooms. One of them included the Sorting Hat Panel, Marvel characters edition. In this event, students held a discussion to categorize Marvel heroes in the Hogwarts Houses.

Towards the end of the event, the competition concluded with the Cosplay Competition. Ava Coleman, a third-year Mechatronics major, participated in the competition as Pain from "Naruto".

“I think it’s fun to get dressed and be judged for it,” Coleman said. “It’s fun to dress up and dress up as a character.”

Owl Con proved to be more than just a convention; it was a vibrant celebration of creativity, passion, and community. From the lively Dealer’s Hall to the engaging workshops, attendees not only displayed their love for pop culture but also built new connections, bringing diverse interests together.
