MSIT Program Requirements

The IT department offers the MSIT program (30 credit hours) and 5 graduate certificates (12 credit hours each):

  • IT Foundation
  • AI and Cloud Technology
  • Data Analytics and Intelligent Technology
  • Enterprise IT Management
  • IT Security

The IT foundation certificate prepares students who don’t have a computing background to transition into the Masters program. The other four certificates focus on a special IT areas.

All the graduate certificates are both standalone and embedded in the MSIT program. If you are just interested in a specific IT field, you can apply for the standalone certificate, or if you enroll in the MSIT program, you can concentrate your study on one of the graduate certificate areas. 

MSIT Program Learning Student Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Analyze a complex problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to elaborate solutions to it. 
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of requirements in the context of the program's discipline. 
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  • Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  • Function effectively as a member and leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program's discipline.

  • Foundation courses are only required for students who don't have computing backgrounds. You can waive foundation courses if you took equivalent courses in your undergraduate or graduate studies. You may also test out of foundation courses by contacting the MSIT program director before you start your first semester.

  • If you choose to do a capstone, you'll take five electives. If you opt for a thesis, you'll take four electives.

    Credit may not be awarded for the same course twice, or for courses deemed so similar as to be considered the same.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificates (2025-2026)

  • The Graduate Certificate in AI and Cloud Technology equips professionals with advanced artificial intelligence and cloud computing skills. The program covers key topics, including machine learning, cloud architecture, data processing, and AI deployment in the cloud, preparing students for leadership roles in AI-driven cloud technology solutions.

  • The Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics and Intelligent Technology is designed for individuals to advance their knowledge and career options in the data analytic field. The certificate focuses on technologies, systems, and applications that support data analytical processing and intelligent IT operations at various levels. Graduates from the program will develop a solid foundation and gain hands-on experience with up-to-date technologies and systems used in the industry. The certificate can be taken either as a stand-alone program or as embedded in the Master of Science in Information Technology program.

  • The Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Information Technology Management is designed for IT professionals and others who hold a bachelor’s degree to advance their knowledge in the field of Enterprise IT Management.

    Students graduating with this program will develop a solid foundation in IT standards, best practices and applications in enterprise IT management areas such as IT service management, IT system acquisition and integration, IT governance and policy, pertinent laws and regulation, and enterprise cloud management.

    The certificate can be taken as a stand-alone program and as an embedded certificate in the MSIT program. Currently enrolled MSIT students can apply the certificate courses towards MSIT requirements and electives.

  • The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Foundations is designed for individuals who hold bachelor’s degrees in non-computing fields and would like to transition into the Master of Science in Information Technology program or obtain an entry-level position in the IT industry. Graduates from the program will obtain fundamental knowledge in the areas of programming, computer networks and system administration, database systems, and web application development.

  • The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Security program is designed for individuals to advance their knowledge and career options in the field of information security. The certificate program focuses on fundamental principles of securing networks and computer systems, hands-on experience with configuration, design, development and administration of security tools, and an awareness of industry best practices. Graduates from the program will build a strong foundation in pursuing a career in the information security field.  The certificate can be taken as a stand-alone program or embedded as part of the Master of Science in Information Technology program.

    • Statement of Purpose - 1 to 2 pages explaining why you're applying and why you're a good fit. Upload into the online application.
    • Resume/Vita - Upload into the online application.
    • Letters of Recommendation - Optional. Send through the online application.

    There is a non-refundable $60 application fee.

  • Submit the required document as soon as you can. The program director will review an application within one week once the application is complete.
    • If you are admitted to the program, you will receive an acceptance email from the graduate college and a welcome letter from the program director.
    • You may then register for classes.
