The students gain valuable research skills and academic credit through their participation, and faculty are able to scale up their research through the framework provided by VIP. In the initial year, the Office of Undergraduate Research will provide each team with $5,000 in seed money to launch their VIP team.

Selected students will conduct research under the guidance of a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member (Primary Investigator [PI]) at Kennesaw State University. Faculty and students will be paid a stipend in order to work collaboratively full-time on a research project.

18 Sunday 19 Monday 20 Tuesday 21 Wednesday Webinar: Early-Career NSF Opportunities 11:00am This webinar will compare and contrast two of the most popular funding mechanisms provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF): the Engineering Research Initiation (ERI) and Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) programs. The ERI program supports investigators based at non-R1 institutions of higher education who are working in engineering fields and have not yet received sufficient federal research funding. The CAREER program supports early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.

22 Thursday Webinar: Entry-Level NIH Opportunities 10:30am This webinar will compare the R15, R16, and R01 funding mechanisms provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), all of which are popular among KSU faculty. While all three mechanisms support meritorious research, the R15 focuses on student development, the R16 focuses on building research capacity, and the R01 supports projects with higher budgets and more ambitious deliverables. Additionally, each of these mechanisms has multiple subtypes that will be discussed.

Undergraduates at Kennesaw State University who are working on research are strongly encouraged to submit an application.
Who Should Apply: Undergraduate researchers from ALL disciplines who are currently enrolled in a public or private college or university located in the state of Georgia.
Recommended Research: Submit a research project that has been accepted and that you have presented within the last two academic years at another conference.

This workshop will help PIs create a strong value proposition for their project and address the challenges of the 6-page page limitation. 1 Wednesday Prototype Living of Tomorrow (PLOT) Launch Event 8:00am at Prillaman Health Sciences, HS1000 The PLOT Launch Event will celebrate the opening of the Prototype Living of Tomorrow grounds, as well as featuring the inaugural Artificial Super Intelligence Conference (ASIConf 2026), a forward-looking program exploring next-generation AI systems and the evolution from AI to AGI to ASI. The conference brings together industry and academic voices through invited talks and submitted contributions, aligned with the broader PLOT vision of building and piloting “living tomorrow” through groundbreaking research.
Accepted papers will be published as open-access proceedings through KSU Digital Commons and indexed in Google Scholar.

15 Wednesday ![NCUR 2026 (Richmond, VA)]() NCUR 2026 (Richmond, VA) All Day The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students. Unlike meetings of academic professional organizations, this gathering of student scholars welcomes presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all disciplines. Overall, this conference offers a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement; provides models of exemplary research, scholarship, and creative activity; and offers student career readiness development.

Virtual Workshop: NSF ERI 11:00am The ERI program supports new investigators as they initiate their research programs and advance their careers as researchers, educators, and innovators. We will focus on how to optimize your score by aligning your research proposal to the review criteria and/or addressing reviewer comments. This workshop will be especially beneficial for PIs who are new to proposal writing or who are working on a resubmission.

These in-person sessions are 45-minute sessions, which begin at the top of each hour (9:00am-9:45am, 10:00am-10:45am, etc.) Students are assigned numbered spots, where they set up their research presentation and are available to discuss and answer questions to attendees.

The Symposium of Student Scholars is a multi-day event designed to showcase student research at Kennesaw State University. All sessions are free and open to the public!
Day 2: Oral Presentations & Performances
Each college is assigned a designated timeslot, and four (4) presentations are selected by administrators to best represent the scope of research happening within their specific college. These are 50-min sessions. Presenters are allotted 10-mins for their presentation and 2-mins for Q&A after.

Student Workshop: Reflections on Your Research Experience 3:30pm In this interactive session, we will reflect on your research experiences over the past semester or year, including what skills you've developed, how you felt about your research experience, how the research experience connects to career readiness, what your next steps will be, and more. For this session, please be on a computer rather than a phone, as you'll need to type answers to questions and submit the type-written responses at the end of the session.
