Webinar: Early-Career NSF Opportunities

This webinar will compare and contrast two of the
most popular funding mechanisms provided by the
National Science Foundation (NSF): the Engineering
Research Initiation (ERI) and Faculty Early Career
Development (CAREER) programs. The ERI program
supports investigators based at non-R1 institutions of
higher education who are working in engineering
fields and have not yet received sufficient federal
research funding. The CAREER program supports
early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as
academic role models in research and education and
to lead advances in the mission of their department
or organization.

Webinar: Entry-Level NIH Opportunities

This webinar will compare the R15, R16, and R01
funding mechanisms provided by the National
Institutes of Health (NIH), all of which are popular
among KSU faculty. While all three mechanisms
support meritorious research, the R15 focuses on
student development, the R16 focuses on building
research capacity, and the R01 supports projects with
higher budgets and more ambitious deliverables.
Additionally, each of these mechanisms has multiple
subtypes that will be discussed.

Virtual Workshop: Overcoming the Biggest Hurdle to a Successful NSF CAREER Proposal

The NSF CAREER funding mechanism supports the
development of faculty not only as outstanding
researchers but also as educators who demonstrate
commitment to teaching, learning, and
dissemination of knowledge. An essential aspect of
successful proposals is creating synergy between the
research plan and the education plan and leveraging
that synergy to yield enhanced broader impacts. This
workshop will help PIs evaluate the integration of
their research and education plans and identify their
greatest potential for broader impact. Participants
who bring an outline of their research plan and
education plan to the workshop will get the most
benefit from this event.

Virtual Workshop: Capacity Building in NIH SuRE Proposals

The SuRE program supports building research
capacity at emerging research institutions by funding
investigator-initiated research in the biomedical,
clinical, behavioral, and social sciences within 20 of
NIH’s institutes. This workshop will help PIs create a
strong value proposition for their project and address
the challenges of the 6-page page limitation.
Participants who bring an outline of their research
approach to the workshop will get the most benefit
from this event.

Virtual Workshop: NSF ERI

The ERI program supports new investigators as they
initiate their research programs and advance their
careers as researchers, educators, and innovators. We
will focus on how to optimize your score by aligning
your research proposal to the review criteria and/or
addressing reviewer comments. This workshop will
be especially beneficial for PIs who are new to
proposal writing or who are working on a
resubmission.

Virtual Workshop: NIH R15

The NIH R15 mechanisms (AREA and REAP) supports
small-scale research projects at educational
institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced
degrees for a significant number of the Nation’s
research scientists but that have not been major
recipients of NIH support. We will focus on how to
optimize your score by aligning your research
proposal to the new NIH review criteria and/or
addressing reviewer comments. This workshop will
be especially beneficial for PIs who are new to
proposal writing or who are working on a
resubmission.

ISTEM building

Writing Retreat for STEM + nonSTEM Faculty

We will be hosting a two-day writing retreat aiming
to bring together researchers working both in and
beyond STEM. We will provide time, space, food, and a
sense of community and common purpose to kick off
a productive summer of research. Workshops on
supporting documents (e.g., budget, human subjects,
biosketches, etc.) will intersperse the retreat.
