Ciao, Italy! See It. Study It. Live It. For a Month.

Session I: June 3-July 3, 2027; Session II: July 1-July 31, 2027

Located in the picturesque, historic region of Tuscany, the Montepulciano, Italy program offers a whole month’s stay in Montepulciano to experience Italian culture. Students live like locals in traditional Italian apartments throughout the small town. Classes are taken at Fortezza, a medieval fortress. The program takes field trips to Rome, Florence, Bologna, and other locations. On the weekends, students are free to independently explore the wonders of Italy. Survival Italian Language lessons are also provided in the program. 

Psychology students can take two courses that will contribute to their degree program: PSYC 2103: Human Development and PSYC 3355 Cross-Cultural Psychology. PSYC 2103 is a required course for all psychology majors and 3355 is a course within the required diversity group. There are also non-psychology classes available and they fulfill the upper-level non-psyc electives or just free electives.

Program Cost - $5,380. Students pay for airfare and tuition separately. The KSU Global Education Scholarships offer additional support to students going on a study abroad trip. Don’t wait too long, apply early! Check out their website

Past Study Abroad Experiences

Italy: A Country with Many Cultures

Based in the picturesque, historic region of Tuscany, this fall study abroad program offered students the opportunity to explore Italian culture while completing two psychology courses. The courses were taught by Dr. Sandara Scheier, who previously participated in study abroad programs in 2023 and 2025 and has extensive travel experience.

  • Dates: September 18 - October 15, 2026
  • Courses: PSYC 3355 (Cross Cultural Psychology) and PSYC 4490 (Psychology of Creativity), totaling 6 credit hours, plus online coursework to maintain full-time status

The Land of the Rising Sun: Japan Adventure

This 3-week study abroad program in Japan, hosted by Kanda University in Chiba near Tokyo, offered students an immersive experience exploring both traditional and modern aspects of Japanese culture and society.

  • Dates: May 10 - May 31, 2025
  • Courses: PSYC 3760 (Asian American Identities) and PSYC 4490 (Special Topics: Gender Issues in Japan), both taught by Professor of Psychology Dr. Ginny Zhan

Mind & Culture: Exploring Taiwan

This 2-week study abroad program in Taiwan for Summer 2026 offered an immersive 3-credit experience that combined rigorous academic exploration with enriching cultural experiences in a region known for its dynamic blend of Western modernization and Eastern tradition. In addition to intercultural exchanges and field trips, students had the opportunity to conduct a mini research project, engage with local Taiwanese university students, and explore how cultural contexts shape perceptions of the self.

Italy: Summer Session I in Montepulciano

This summer study abroad program in Montepulciano, Italy, located in the historic region of Tuscany, offered students the opportunity to take lower- and upper-division coursework across a variety of disciplines. The program combined academic study with an immersive cultural experience in one of Italy’s most picturesque settings. Dr. Ordene Edwards taught psychology courses as part of the program.
