Fee waivers for Summer 2027 and Fall 2027 applications

The Inclusive Education Department will be offering application fee waivers for candidates applying to start the M.Ed. Special Education program in Summer 2027 (May 1, 2027 application deadline) and Fall 2027 (July 1, 2027, application deadline). Program Overview

100% Online | 10 Courses | 30 Credit Hours

The fully online M.Ed. in Special Education - General Curriculum program enrolls a new cohort of experienced general education teachers each summer and fall. The program is designed for candidates to complete the 30-credit-hour master's degree in up to five semesters. Upon completion, graduates will be prepared to serve students with disabilities in a variety of teaching and leadership roles.

No on-campus attendance is required. Online coursework is taught by graduate faculty who provide synchronous and/or asynchronous instruction, feedback, and supervision as candidates complete field experiences in their current work settings.

 

The online master's degree prepares candidates to serve students with disabilities in inclusive P-12 settings through the Special Education - General Curriculum. The program of study includes coursework in curriculum development, collaborative practices, and content-area teaching strategies in reading and writing.

Electives are included to support candidates' individual interests, such as gifted, autism, dyslexia, or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement certificates.

The program meets Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) standards. The Master of Education in Special Education degree prepares practicing educators for advanced roles in Special Education - General Curriculum. Completion of the M.Ed. in Special Education meets the requirements for a level upgrade to a PSC-issued teaching certificate. This program is intended for experienced educators with certification in special education or another teaching field. Individuals who do not hold certification in a special education field must pass the Special Education General Curriculum GACE assessments before the PSC will issue a certificate upgrade.

Electives

As part of the Master of Education in Special Education program, candidates will need to select 3 to 6 credit hours in electives. To meet the elective requirements, candidates will need to select two 7000-level or above graduate courses.

If your bachelor's degree is in a field other than education and you would like to become a teacher, consider KSU's MAT in Special Education. The program is designed for individuals pursuing initial teacher certification and provides a pathway to earn both a master's degree and certification in Special Education.
  • Yes, you do need a valid teaching certificate in order to be accepted in to the program.

Admission Requirements

Must possess the following beyond the general KSU Graduate College Admission Requirements: 

  • Degree – Bachelor’s degree.
  • Certificate – Uploaded to graduate application. Current clear, renewable Georgia Teaching Certificate, out-of-state equivalent, OR Inclusive Education Department Chair/Program Coordinator approval. To print a copy of your clear, renewable Georgia teaching certificate, you may log into your MyPSC account. 
  • Résumé or Professional Vitae – Uploaded to graduate application. Should document education, teaching experience, community service, and your record of leadership.
