If my undergraduate major was not in education, am I eligible for this program?
Yes, the program does not require an undergraduate degree in education as an admission
requirement. |

Is all coursework online?
|
While the courses are online, you have embedded field assignments in ECE 6640, ECE
6670, and ECE 6641. These require being in certain grade bands and working with elementary
aged children in person, documenting time throughout the semester in order to meet
the requirements to certify in the state of Georgia.
During the Yearlong Clinical Experience (YCE), the state of Georgia requires 600 hours in the field for initial licensure in P5 Elementary education. In the Fall, this looks like 28 "teacher days", or about 2-3 days per week for the semester. In the Spring, this is 47 teacher days, or about 4-5 days per week, with at least 3 weeks of full time (5 days per week) teaching. A “teacher day” is the teacher's contracted workday, beginning at their required arrival time and ending at their designated departure time.

I am a certified teacher and want to add the elementary education field to my teaching
certificate. Is this the right program for me?
The PSC requires completion of a teacher preparation program in elementary education
to add the elementary education field to a teaching certificate. |

I am a paraprofessional. Can I complete this program?
|
Yes, in most cases we can use your classroom assignment if you’re a paraprofessional as long as you're in a general education P5 classroom with a teacher who holds a professional Georgia P5 License and has 3 years of induction or professional experience.
If you are in a one-on-one, Autism or SPED classroom (not teaching the standard curriculum),
please contact us so we can make sure your school placement has options for you to
complete the required field hours.
The PSC requires exposure in 3 grade bands, Pre-K-K, grades 1-3, and grades 4-5. You
will be required to complete field experiences in grade bands outside of your classroom.
We encourage you to speak with your principal and district HR about your degree pathway

I’m a provisionally licensed teacher. Can I complete my yearlong clinical in my own classroom?

Yes, in most cases we can use your classroom assignment if you’re a provisionally licensed teacher as long as you're in a general education P5 classroom and have a mentor teacher who holds a professional Georgia P5 License and has 3 years of experience.

Is financial aid available?

Please visit the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid’s website to learn about your financial aid and scholarship options.
Effective fall 2026, Elementary Education became a qualified field for the federal
TEACH Grant. The TEACH Grant provides funding for students who plan to teach in a
high-need field and meet the program's service requirements after graduation. Students
interested in the TEACH Grant are encouraged to contact the Office of Scholarships
and Financial Aid directly for more information about eligibility requirements, application
procedures, and service obligations.

Can I take any of the courses at any time?
|
No, courses are only offered in the semester in which they are listed in the program
of study above. If you need a slower program of study, please email eecematinfo@kennesaw.edu.

Do I need to take the GACE Elementary Education P – 5 Exam (702) and Application of the Science of Reading (Test 418)?
| You will take the exams at some point during the program, but they are not required
for admittance into the program. You will, however, need to take GACE Ethics for Teachers Exam (Test 351) for admittance into the program. |

What is tort liability insurance. How do I get it?
| The PSC requires that all student teachers have evidence of liability insurance before completing clinical experiences. In some cases, if you work full time in a school district, the district’s liability insurance will cover you. For students not working in a school district, low-cost or free liability insurance is available through PAGE or GAE. Please note that evidence of liability insurance is not required for admission. |

When is the application deadline?
Our program only admits once a year, for the summer semester, and the deadline is
May 1st. |

I have successfully completed a related course at another institution, will the credit
hours apply toward this program?
You can transfer up to 9 credit hours of course work based upon review and approval
by the program coordinator. Transfer credit is not guaranteed, and evaluations are
only done after admission to the program. |
