IBC Meetings
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) meets once a month to consider full board proposals and other procedural and process updates for the university. If there are no agenda items, meetings are cancelled.
The deadline for submitting a proposal to be included on the next agenda is two weeks before the meeting date. Each incoming protocol undergoes a biosafety pre-review and may be returned for edits before being put before the committee at large.
Certain categories of work are eligible for Designated Member Review. This review procedure bypasses consideration by the full committee but includes review by at least one member, outside of the meeting cycle. The categories of research eligible for this process include the following sample types from generally healthy populations:
- Fingerstick blood collection, as the only handling of blood
- Urine collection and analysis
- Saliva collection and analysis
- Sweat collection and analysis
Please note that protocols including other types of research activities outside of the above list (including full blood draws) will need to be reviewed at a convened meeting. Full details can be found in the DMR Policy.
