Rules and Guidelines
- You are responsible for your safety.
- Users must always wear sturdy, closed-toed, closed-back shoes that continuously cover
the foot from heel to toe at all times in the Makerspace.
- Users must wear appropriate clothing. No loose clothing or dangling jewelry. Remove/secure anything that has the potential to be caught in the equipment. Sweatshirt, sweatpants, strings tucked in, neck ties/scarfs removed, long sleeves rolled up etc.
- Jewelry on the hands and wrists must be removed before using any tools.
- Users must secure long hair behind the head before operating rotating tools.
- Users must always be aware of their body and surroundings, including where one’s hands are in relation to equipment.
- Do not remove or modify any safety guards/shields from equipment. If something needs
to be adjusted, please inform a staff member.
- Do not open instrument/machines while they are in operation.
- Never use a broken tool, instrument or equipment. If you notice something is broken,
inform a staff member right away.
- Keep the floor clear of clutter, wires, and trip hazards.
- If you are unsure about safe operation of a piece of equipment, ask a staff member.
- Safety glasses and hearing protection are available for your use. It is your responsibility
to use proper safety equipment for your project. If you are unsure, ask a Makerspace
staff member.
- Report any injuries/incidents/near misses to a staff member immediately.
- Log the incident with Reliance. You will need your NetId credentials.
- Safety glasses and hearing protection must be worn in designated areas. See EHS signage
on room/area doors for specifics.
- Users are not permitted to wear noise-cancelling devices or earbuds while working.
Users must be able to hear and receive instruction from Ideate staff.
- Only cut approved materials on the laser cutters. See instrument for details.
- Never look directly at the laser beam while the cutter is operating.
- Appointment-based tool users will be considered a no-show if they fail to arrive within
15 minutes of the start of their appointment.
- No-shows will be recorded and billed for the reservation in StratoCore.
- No-show appointments may be released to the community for walk-in use.
- Users are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Plan on stopping work and cleaning work areas 30 minutes prior to closure. Failure to clean up after yourself may result in loss of access.
