  The Outreach Training Program is a voluntary program. Its purpose is to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. Outreach training does not fulfill the training requirements found in OSHA standards. Employers are responsible for providing additional training for their workers on specific hazards of their job as noted in many OSHA standards. The OSHA Outreach Training Program provides training on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of workplace hazards. Outreach classes also provide overview information regarding OSHA, including workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.

  Program Benefits

  • Promotes safety culture through peer training.
  • Training is intended to be participatory, using hands-on activities.
  • Trainers are able to tailor the training topics based on specific needs of their audience.
  • Outreach training content includes hazard recognition and avoidance, workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint; it emphasizes the value of safety and health to workers, including young workers.

  CampusOptics is an EHS enterprise software that is used at Kennesaw State University for tracking chemical inventories, managing hazardous waste and universal waste pickups, and performing laboratory inspections. This training provides primary points of contact and users a basic functional awareness of how to manage personnel for a given space, how to track, manage, and reconcile chemical inventory in CampusOptics, and how to request hazardous waste pickups.

  Bloodborne Pathogen Training

  This course is available to all researchers, laboratory personnel and students, and should be completed by anyone whose research, activities or work duties could potentially result in exposure to materials of human origin, including blood, blood components, cells, DNA, human bodily fluids, or known bloodborne pathogens (e.g., Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, etc.).  Course topic include (but are not limited to) explanation of bloodborne pathogens standard, description of BBPs, control measures, and emergency response.

  Forklift Training

  Forklift operators are required to complete the Forklift Safety Awareness online module and attend hands on training to obtain a forklift operator license issued by KSU Card Services. This Forklift Training focuses on Safety operating procedures, such as how to drive the forklift vehicle and operate the hydraulic lift safely.  Training primarily covers loading and unloading materials, it also includes handling hazardous materials and performing vehicle inspections. Day two consists of hands on training scheduled in the class.

  Legionella Awareness

  Students will learn how Legionella bacteria can pose a risk in domestic water systems. Also, understand how the guidelines and regulations can provide helpful framework for water management. And will learn how mitigation and validation testing is essential for lowering risk.
