  “America at 250, Vol. 2: A Tanglewood Reunion”
  The KSU Symphony Orchestra continues celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of United States of America with a performance featuring works by two major composers associated with the Tanglewood Music Center: Copland and Bernstein. BSOM faculty artist Leonardo Lopes is the featured soloist in a double bass concerto by one of the founders of Tanglewood – and Bernstein’s primary conducting teacher – Serge Koussevitzky.
  
  Since its founding in 2004, the KSU Symphony Orchestra has grown into a vibrant musical community where emerging artists engage the great orchestral traditions while shaping the future of symphonic performance. Bringing together musicians from across disciplines and backgrounds, the ensemble approaches each performance with technical excellence, expressive depth and a spirit of discovery.
  
  This season’s programs journey across landscapes both historical and geographical — from celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary like this one, to a preview of the orchestra’s international tour repertory as they prepare to travel through Prague, Vienna and Budapest this spring. Along the way, you will encounter masterworks of the orchestral canon alongside bold contemporary compositions and performances featuring distinguished Bailey School of Music faculty artists and award-winning student soloists.

  The KSU Symphony Orchestra continues celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of United States of America with a performance featuring works by two major composers associated with the Tanglewood Music Center: Copland and Bernstein. BSOM faculty artist Leonardo Lopes is the featured soloist in a double bass concerto by one of the founders of Tanglewood – and Bernstein’s primary conducting teacher – Serge Koussevitzky.

  Accessible Web Essentials Workshop (Staff Accessibility Workshop)

  All Day

  The Accessible Web Essentials (AWE) workshop is a self-paced three-module workshop for public-facing web content creators. The workshop provides resources and experiences to demonstrate web accessibility, detailed instructions on how to make content accessible, and practice creating accessible documents and media. Participants earn digital credentials as they complete each unit culminating in a digital certificate. 

  After taking this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the purpose of web accessibility and explain why it is vital to make all KSU web content accessible.
  • Use web and document tools to create accessible content structures, write sufficient alternative text for images, and add appropriate media accessibility options such as captions and/or audio descriptions.
  • Describe when and how to create alternate options for media-rich or interactive-rich resources.
  • Create an accessibility plan for their department’s pages.

  Duration in Hours and Minutes: Three weeks, approximately 4 hours per week investment.

  16-Hour Probate Mediation Training & Practicum

  8:30am

  The 16-Hour Probate Mediation Training & Practicum requires you are registered as a general civil mediator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution. The 16- hour training will require two hours of pre training homework.

  The learning objectives for the remaining 14-hours are listed below.

  • Know the common issues, legal concepts, and terms in probate mediation and be able to correctly address those issues and use the specific terms in agreements.
  • Understand the court processes for estate and guardianship/conservatorship cases and how to prepare parties for next steps after a mediation has ended.
  • Know the difference between parties to a mediation and legally interested parties and how to handle situations in which not all parties are present, and how to address.
  • Identify common ethical red flags in probate cases and how to handle, including when a mediation is not appropriate or should be terminated.

  16-Hour Probate Mediation Training & Practicum

  8:30am

  The 16-Hour Probate Mediation Training & Practicum requires you are registered as a general civil mediator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution. The 16- hour training will require two hours of pre training homework.

  The learning objectives for the remaining 14-hours are listed below.

  • Know the common issues, legal concepts, and terms in probate mediation and be able to correctly address those issues and use the specific terms in agreements.
  • Understand the court processes for estate and guardianship/conservatorship cases and how to prepare parties for next steps after a mediation has ended.
  • Know the difference between parties to a mediation and legally interested parties and how to handle situations in which not all parties are present, and how to address.
  • Identify common ethical red flags in probate cases and how to handle, including when a mediation is not appropriate or should be terminated.

This is an online, asynchronous, 3-week foundation course using effective course design and facilitation elements. By the end of this workshop, participants will have designed a course alignment map for an upcoming course they have chosen to work on, a facilitation document for multiple modalities for at least two modules and a course syllabus which includes a communication and feedback plan.   You're invited to join the College of Science and Mathematics as we celebrate the 13th annual Birla Carbon Scholars Program with the 2026 Research Symposium in the Science Laboratory Building - Atrium (Kennesaw Campus) on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to view undergraduate research within the College of Science and Mathematics by our Birla Carbon Scholars and Birla Carbon International Scholars.

  • Take the Marietta to Kennesaw Big Owl Bus (7:00 AM–11:00 PM), then transfer to the Kennesaw Shopping Center route once you arrive on the Kennesaw Campus.

  Alternative Option: CobbLinc

  • Students can also use CobbLinc. From the Marietta Campus, it's about a 15-minute walk to the Marietta Transfer Center, where you can catch Route 40 or Route 45. More info here!

  Every August, KSU Dance begins its season with original works. This year, Double Exposure features two world-premieres by internationally acclaimed choreographers Gabrielle Lamb and Phoebe Jewitt, created exclusively for the KSU Dance Company through Eleo Pomare –Glenn Conner Dance Endowment.
  
  These original works emerge out of an intensive four -week summer residency that places students alongside professional choreographers in a dynamic environment of experimentation, rigor and artistic discovery. The result is an evening of contemporary dance that is richly inventive, physically compelling and entirely new.

  WOW OwlsServe Day

  Join the Department of Student Volunteerism and Service for the 2026 WOW OwlsServe Day on August 29th from 9 AM to 12 PM. This year, we will serve at Smith-Gilbert Gardens, MUST Ministries, Northwest Family YMCA, and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.

   

  Registration Information: Each student must register for this event on GivePulse. Registration is required to participate in this event. You can only register to serve at one site. 

   

  Transportation: All students will be required to ride Big Owl Bus transportation to and from both KSU campuses. The detailed bus schedule will be sent on August 24th.

  Registration Deadline: The registration deadline is August 21st. There are no opportunities for walk-up registration.

   

  Communication: Full details about the Week of Welcome OwlsServe Day will be sent from Kia Brown (SVS Program Coordinator) to all registered participants on Monday, August 21st. If you have any questions in the meantime, please email ksuserves@kennesaw.edu.
