Building Community with Faculty Peers

CETL Mutual Mentoring Groups (MMGs) and Communities of Practice (CoPs) provide an opportunity for KSU faculty to build community with peers and to support each other while achieving goals within a thematic focus, as defined by the group. The MMGs are facilitated by a lead faculty mentor, meet monthly or bimonthly, and are structured according to member preference. Some are accountability groups which provide regular check-in times to discuss progress made toward goals, some explore resources and research on a selected area of focus, some are professional support groups, and some are a combination of these. The Communities of Practice are facilitated by a member of the CETL staff, meet monthly or bimonthly, and are structured to meet a shared purpose. For both MMGs and CoPs, members commit to attend most of the meetings each semester and receive no funding for participation.

Please click on the name of the group below for more information and the link to sign up to participate. Registration for these groups closes one day prior to the first meeting each semester. Please email the facilitator directly in order to join after registration closes.

Fall 2026 MMGs and CoPs

The Fall 2026 Mutual Mentoring Groups (MMGs) and Community of Practice Groups (CoPs) offer KSU faculty and academic leaders a structured space to connect, collaborate, and grow. Designed to foster support and professional development, each group focuses on the unique needs of its members

  • Are you a lecturer in your first or second year who hasn’t yet gone up for promotion? This group is designed to connect early-career lecturers from across the university, providing a supportive space to share experiences, exchange advice, and build lasting professional relationships. Together, we’ll navigate the challenges and opportunities of the early career stage. At the kickoff meeting, we'll determine a meeting schedule for the rest of the semester. 

    The kick-off meeting for this MMG will be September 2.

  • The Early Career Tenure Track Mutual Mentoring Group provides an opportunity for assistant professors to build community and support each other as they seek to flourish in their first few years at KSU. Members will meet monthly to discuss topics and share resources related to the opportunities and challenges faculty experience in early career. 

    The kick-off meeting for this MMG will be September 1.

  • This mutual mentoring group will bring tenure track faculty together who are preparing to submit their pre-tenure portfolios in the fall. We will support each other through the process and help each other connect with resources that can get our questions answered. 

    This MMG will meet virtually on September 15, September 29, October 13, and November 13.

  • The Supporting VITAL Faculty Mutual Mentoring Group provides an opportunity for administrators and faculty who support and/or supervise part-time and limited-term VITAL faculty as part of their formal workloads to build community with like-minded peers while engaging in group-led discussions related to orienting, onboarding, developing, and mentoring part-time and limited term faculty. 

    The kick-off meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 25 at 3:30 p.m., with the option to attend in-person at the CETL house or online via Microsoft Teams.

  • This MMG will bring together sustainability-focused faculty to network and exchange teaching strategies that support sustainability education, that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including problem‑based learning, experiential and community‑engaged teaching, active learning strategies, and inclusive teaching practices. Sessions will emphasize cross‑disciplinary dialogue, practical takeaways related to teaching sustainability, and building faculty capacity, collaboration, and supportive networks in teaching sustainability.

    This MMG will meet on September 4, October 9, November 6, and December 4.

  • The VITAL Community of Practice provides an opportunity for part-time and limited-term faculty to build community and support each other as they seek to grow professionally in a supportive environment facilitated by a CETL staff member.  Participants will meet monthly to discuss topics related to effective teaching practices, learning-centered teaching, and student success. They will then engage in meaningful self-reflection to develop and/or enhance their professional teaching portfolios while working to earn the Documenting Teaching Effectiveness and Student Success Outcomes Level 1 micro-credential 

    The virtual kick-off meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 26 at 5:45 p.m. on Microsoft Teams. Interested participants should register in advance.
