Human Services, BS

The Bachelor of Science in Human Services (HS) prepares professionals to engage, advocate, and innovate to improve the lives of people and communities across diverse settings. The program emphasizes applied learning, ethical practice, intercultural fluency and civic engagement.

Students complete two required internship experiences. The foundation internship provides opportunities to demonstrate the knowledge, attitudes, and skills developed in lower-level coursework through supervised micro- and macro-level practice. The advanced internship builds on these skills and aligns with the student’s chosen concentration.

Students select one of three concentration pathways:

  • Advocacy, Relational Practice, and Social Work
This concentration prepares students for direct practice with individuals, families, children, and groups. Students develop skills for crisis intervention and behavioral and mental health settings.
  • Nonprofit Leadership, Policy, and Administration
This concentration focuses on management, leadership, policy, and administrative competencies for careers in nonprofit organizations and community-based services.
  • Related Studies in Human Services
This flexible concentration allows students to integrate Human Services coursework with an approved minor, certificate, or curated set of related courses to support individualized career goals.

All Human Services majors graduate with core competencies in communication, assessment, advocacy, documentation, community networking, intercultural fluency, social policy, civic engagement, and professional and career development, as established by CSHSE standards. Graduates may qualify to sit for the Human Service Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) exam.

The Human Services program is accredited by the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE) and is part of the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services.
