KSU Mathematics Competition

The KSU Mathematics Competition is an annual competition sponsored by the Department of Mathematics, College of Science and Mathematics, and Kennesaw State University (KSU), a division of the State University of Georgia, and the third largest university in Georgia.

This competition is an annual mathematics contest for Georgia high school students, both public and private. Each Georgia high school will receive a packet of information about the competition by mid-September.

Registration Deadlines and Competition Dates

Online registration will be available in the last week of August. Contest materials will be emailed to registered schools at least one week before the competition date (listed below). The contest is administered at individual high schools.

  • 2026-2027 Competition Part I —
    • Registration Deadline: Wednesday, October 21, 2026
    • Competition Part I: Wednesday, October 28, 2026
  • 2026-2027 Competition Part II — Tuesday, February 2, 2027

How Does it Work?

Part I

Administered in a convenient 90-minute block of time during or after the school day at the student's high school. There are 25 multiple-choice questions, ranging in difficulty, covering all levels of pre-calculus mathematics included in the Georgia state high school mathematics curriculum. Scored at KSU.

Part II

Students scoring in the top 10% statewide in Part I will be invited to participate in Part II. Administered in a convenient 2-hour block of time during or after the school day at the student's high school. There will be 5 open-ended questions, some requiring justification, and ALL requiring process to be shown. A committee of the KSU Department of Mathematics faculty will read and score the papers.

The Results

Results for Part I will be sent by email to each participating school following the competition. Students scoring in the top 10% statewide in Part I will be invited to participate in Part II.

Part II consists of written, proof-based mathematical problems and is graded by the KSU Mathematics Competition Committee. Final individual rankings are determined by combining each student’s scores from Part I and Part II. Final results and rankings will be communicated to participating schools following the completion and grading of Part II.
