Platforms for KSU Digital Signage

KSU digital signage shares timely, campus-wide messages in a brand-consistent way. Use the guidelines below to keep content clear, accessible, and aligned with University standards. 

 

OwlTV Overview

The Scope: There are over 150 digital signs across the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses to display University-wide messages and department-specific content.  

  • Only content that promotes KSU activities, events, or educational opportunities such as: 

    • Athletics and sporting events 
    • Lectures, art exhibits, concerts, and plays 
    • Campus tours and admission events 
    • Summer camps 
    • University branding and recruitment campaigns 
    • Campus-wide messages approved by Strategic Communications and Marketing 

    Note: No paid commercial ads are allowed. Corporate sponsor recognition is permitted with prior approval. 

  • Do not submit the following prohibited content:

    • Illegal or policy-violating events 
    • Obscene or offensive content 
    • Political or religious promotions 
    • Private or non-public events 
    • Narrow-interest or non-KSU affiliated messages 
    • Classified ads or personal messages 
    • Paid advertising or endorsements 
    • Promotion of commercial entities unless approved as sponsors 
    • Promotion of illegal activities, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, or competing services 
    • Keep it simple: Clear, uncluttered designs work best 
    • Headline first: Make it bold and easy to read 
    • Call to action: Tell viewers what to do or know 
    • Typography:  
      • Use an accessible sans-serif font like Montserrat
      • Limit to two fonts 
      • Follow the 3x5 rule (3 lines × 5 words or 5 lines × 3 words) 
      • Confirm the message is readable in under 7 seconds

    • Color:  
      • Use contrast for clarity 
      • Avoid too many colors 
      • Light text on dark backgrounds (and vice versa) 
      • Avoid bright white or high glare backgrounds
    • Resolution: 144 dpi 
    • Size: 16 × 9 inches 
    • Color Mode: RGB
    • File Format: JPG 

I-75 Overview

The digital sign on I-75 at Big Shanty Road features three display areas: 

  • Top: Permanent KSU logo
  • Bottom: Permanent KSU Athletics and Fifth Third Bank logos 
  • Middle: Rotating space for approved University-related content
  • Only content promoting KSU activities, events, or educational opportunities can be displayed, such as:

    • Athletics and sporting events 
    • Lectures, art exhibits, concerts, and plays

    • Summer camps 
    • University branding and recruitment campaigns

    • Create hierarchy: Lead with clear headlines and calls to action. 
    • Use accessible typography: Use sans-serif fonts (e.g., Montserrat), limit to two fonts, follow the 3x5 rule (3 lines × 5 words or 5 lines × 3 words). 
    • Use color for clarity: Maintain high contrast; avoid overly bright backgrounds  
    • Resolution: 144 dpi 
    • Size: 16 × 9 inches

    • File Format: JPG 
    • Resolution: 72 dpi  
    • Dimensions: 1440 × 900 pixels 
    • Format: JPG in RGB color mode 
    • Copyright: Only royalty-free or University-owned content is allowed for usage.
  • University-wide signage: Submit artwork for brand approval through the Project Request form.

    Submit approved designs to owltv@kennesaw.edu or 75digital@kennesaw.edu for posting:  

    • Include brand approval  
    • Final graphic file 
    • Start and end dates to be posted and removed
      • Please note: normal runtime is 30 days if no end date is specified  
    • OwlTV locations where content should be displayed
    • Departmental signage: Each department manages its own folder and approval process, typically handled by department administrators
