Attend one (1) Mandatory Orientation Refresher Session

Accepted students are required to attend one of the Orientation Refresher sessions
listed below. We highly encourage students to attend one of the in-person sessions to reconnect with your
fellow scholars!

Fulfill Abstract Submission Requirement for the Spring Symposium of Student Scholars
|
All First-Year Scholars are required to actively present their research project at
the Spring Symposium of Student Scholars. The Spring Symposium of Student Scholars
is held on the Kennesaw Campus and virtually.
All First-Year Scholar students are required to be listed as an author or co-author
on the project abstract submitted for review and approval [you are not automatically accepted to the Symposium].
You should discuss the following with your Primary Investigator (PI), in advance of the abstract submission:
- Which presentation type is best for your research project
- please note that abstract submission deadline dates differ based on the presentation type you choose.
- Individual Presentation or, if applicable, a Group Presentation
- Individual presentations require separate submissions with unique abstracts.
- If there are multiple First-Year Scholars working on your project, and your PI wants
you to present individually, abstracts must be different and written in each applicants
own words.
- Submissions with the same abstract will be returned for revisions, as this is considered plagiarism. Revisions must be submitted by the stated deadline, otherwise the application will
be rejected.
- Group presentations require only one (1) abstract submission, with all student authors listed
Abstract Submission Deadline Dates:
- In-Person Oral Presentation and Performance Abstract Submission Deadline:
- Wednesday, March 10, 2027 by 11:59pm
- In-Person Poster Presentation, Visual Display, and Virtual Presentation Abstract Submission
Deadline:
- Wednesday, March 17, 2027 by 11:59pm

Attend at least one (1) Professional Development Activity
|
Any of the approved options listed below will count as a Professional Development
Activity credit, which should be completed by March 12, 2027.
Students are encouraged to complete this requirement early, and not wait until the
last offered sessions. As a reminder, a minimum of one (1) of the required credits
per semester must be earned by attending an activity sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate
Research and/or the Undergraduate Research Club.
- Undergraduate Research Peer Ambassador Workshop(s)
- Undergraduate Research Club Meetings
- Academic Learning Center, OUR Suite 5500 OR MS Teams (Kennesaw Campus or Virtual)
- Round-table with the VP of Research, Dr. Karin Scarpinato
- Thursday, February 4, 2027 at 11:00am - 12:00pm

- Space is limited, so you must RSVP to reserve a spot!
- SMART Center Workshops
- Any offered workshop between Monday, January 18, 2027 - Friday, March 12, 2027
- You MUST RSVP via OwlLife and be sure to tap-in when you arrive

Work 5-10 hours per week on the project
First-Year Scholars should be working 5-10 hours on their assigned project. If this
is not the case, please talk to your PI about the working hours schedule. |
