About HEAL

Multidisciplinary treatment teams are considered the standard of care when treating eating disorders, due to the multifaceted nature of eating disorders, which can affect the emotional, psychological and physiological aspects of a person’s lived experience. To support KSU students who may be experiencing eating disorders and or disordered eating the HEAL team offers this interdisciplinary care to students through a partnership between Counseling and Psychological Services, Health Promotion and Wellness, Student Health Services and the Center for Addiction Recovery Prevention and Education. The mission of the HEAL team is to support students with eating concerns and create a body-appreciative campus culture through awareness, education and events.

What We Do

The HEAL Team collaborates to provide the appropriate level of assessment, intervention, support, and/or referrals for KSU students who present with eating and/or body image concerns.

  • Provide treatment plans that are individualized and may include clinical case management, counseling, psychiatry, medical care/ lab work, nutrition services, and/ or movement support.
  • Provide ethical and evidence-based treatment.
  • Determine the appropriate level of care based on the student's needs.
  • Make recommendations based on progress and level of functioning.
  • Connect students with community resources and referrals as needed.
  • Collaborate with other offices, as necessary, to promote academic success and progress.

Referral Process

Students who are interested in joining the HEAL team can expect the following referral process:

  • Make an appointment with CAPS either through the link below or give the office a call

  • After having an intake appointment, students will complete an extended intake appointment to further assess history of and current behaviors and thoughts about their relationship with food and their body.
  • After assessment and HEAL is identified as an accurate referral, students will complete a Release of Information to allow CAPS, SHS, HPW and CARPE to collaborate and create an individualized treatment plan
  • Once ROI is completed students will be asked to set up an appointment with Student Health for a physiological assessment which may include lab work.
  • Meet with the on-campus RDN to assess nutrition needs
  • Can include continued appointments with CAPS, SHS, HPW as well as attending community events through CARPE
