Behind the Feathers: Varinah Dubuission

Varinah Dubuission, a history major, is gaining hands-on experience while making an impact Kennesaw State’s library.

Varinah Dubuission, a senior history major, works in Kennesaw State’s Department of Museum, Archives, Rare Books, and University Libraries  (MARBUL). Her role is unique because she works in two different settings. 

“I work in research sharing, which is like ILL (interlibrary loan) or GIL (Galileo International Libraries) Express [with University Libraries],” Dubuission said, “And I also work with the Archives upstairs.”

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Dubuission’s day-to-day work includes supporting interlibrary loan and GIL Express services. KSU’s interlibrary loan service allows faculty, staff, and students to access articles or books not available at the university. GIL provides similar services through institutions across the University System of Georgia.

Dubuission assists students and faculty with submitting requests and managing the mailing system, which can extend to other universities. Her role also includes organizing, processing, and providing general support.

Requests and Collection 

One aspect of her job Dubuisson finds especially interesting is seeing the variety of materials people request. 

“It could be either for research purposes or leisurely reading,” she said. 

As for her work in the Archives, she enjoys exploring the many collections available at KSU.  

Aspirations for the Future 

Dubuission hopes to be come a librarian upon graduation and said her current role is helping her build the necessary skills. 

“This job has really equipped me,” she said. “It gives me tools and experience that are really helpful.”

Advice for Fellow Owls 

Dubuission’s encourages her fellow Owls to pursue on-campus jobs, even if they are not directly related to their career goals. 

“I still really suggest it because the staff and faculty here are extremely kind,” she said. “They can connect you with people who are interested in the position that you want to work in.”
