The Three Minute Thesis is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. The exercise develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of students' capacities to effectively explain their research in a language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience. Master's and Doctoral students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis or dissertation topic and it's significance.
Who's Eligible? Currently enrolled master's and doctoral students at KSU who have key results in their thesis or dissertation. Students who have already graduated from KSU are not eligible.
Rules: A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations, or “movement’ of any description are allowed. The slide is to be presented from the beginning of the oration. No Additional electronic media (e.g., sound and video files) are permitted. No additional props (e.g., costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted. Presentations are limited to a maximum of 3 minutes, and competitors exceeding this time are disqualified. Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g., no poems, raps, or songs) Presentations are to commence from the stage. Presentations are considered to have commenced when the presenter starts the presentation through either movement or speech. The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.
